Samsung’s mobile chief, T.M. Roh, has spoken up about the future of Galaxy AI after it transitions from being free in 2025.
Roh, in a recent conversation with ET Telecom, reiterated what we learned during the Galaxy S24 series launch. Despite significant investments in Galaxy AI development, its features will remain free for users until 2025. The uncertainty arises about its fate post-2025, and interestingly, Samsung is also unsure about the future of Galaxy AI beyond the free period.
Roh shared that Galaxy AI hasn’t made any firm decisions regarding its finances post-2025. Nonetheless, he suggested potential plans to bring in enhanced AI features for paying subscribers down the road.
“According to our analysis, there are various needs for mobile AI. So, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free. Then there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful AI capabilities and even pay for them. So, in the future decision-making, we will take all these factors into consideration,” Roh said.
The company has more than a year to make a decision, so we expect to receive an update when they have information to share. Android Authority had contacted Samsung earlier about the future of AI features but did not receive a response from the brand.
Meanwhile, Roh expressed optimism about Galaxy AI’s future. He mentioned the company’s goal to introduce the technology to more than 100 million devices globally within the upcoming months.
Samsung has officially stated that the AI assistant will be added to several previous Galaxy flagship models, like the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series by the first half of 2024. It’s likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 will also incorporate Galaxy AI features, contributing to Samsung’s goal of reaching 100 million Galaxy AI installations.
