Today, Meta AI unveiled an innovative conversational assistant designed to engage with users in a human-like manner, as expressed by the company.
In an official blog post, Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Microsoft’s consumer division, revealed that Microsoft Bing is collaborating with Meta AI to seamlessly incorporate Bing into Meta AI’s chat functionalities. This partnership aims to deliver more prompt and current responses, offering access to real-time search data.
This entails the integration of Bing into Meta AI, alongside the addition of 28 other AI personas within Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger by Meta.
In essence, Microsoft’s approach involves enabling Meta AI to seamlessly access Bing for real-time responses when a query demands up-to-the-minute information. Jordi Ribas, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President and leader of Bing’s engineering and product development, elaborated on this feature.
“Many people ask me whether LLMs will make web search engines less valuable, but the opposite is actually the case. LLMs make web search more critical than ever, since the combination of LLMs + web search is what produces fresher and more accurate chat results,” Ribas posted on X.
Why is this important to us?
The scope of search is continuously growing, encompassing virtually every aspect of our lives and the world around us simultaneously. This integration implies that Meta’s AI assistant will be equipped with up-to-the-minute data, which, in principle, should lead to improved conversational search outcomes. Additionally, on the horizon, businesses will gain the capability to develop their own AI systems.

More Meta AIs with Bing
Meta is introducing an exciting array of 28 new AI characters, each possessing distinct personalities, for users to engage with across its platforms. These AI entities, which encompass famous figures like Tom Brady, Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, and Mr. Beast, will soon integrate Bing search functionality in the near future.
Bing’s Role
The Meta AI is driven by a customized model incorporating technology from Llama 2 and other substantial language models. Nevertheless, Meta’s LLMs are exclusively trained on data preceding 2023, potentially resulting in responses that may seem outdated. This is where Bing’s real-time web results will play a crucial role, ensuring up-to-date information.
Meta also has exciting plans in the pipeline, promising the development of AIs tailored for businesses and creators, set to launch next year. Stay tuned for more!
From Meta:
“Businesses will also be able to create AIs that reflect their brand’s values and improve customer service experiences. From small businesses looking to scale to large brands wanting to enhance communications, AIs can help businesses engage with their customers across our apps. We’re launching this in alpha and will scale it further next year.”
