Android has been facing a challenge for some time now with its volume slider system. Up until recently, Android users were limited to one volume slider for both notifications and ringtones. This caused inconvenience as there was no option to silence incoming calls without having to silence notifications and vice-versa.
However, Google has recently addressed this limitation and included separate volume controls for notifications and ringtones, which means users can now adjust the sound levels of each independently.
Google has confirmed that they are working on a solution for a problem that was reported in their system. They have marked the problem as resolved, which means that in a future update, users of Google Pixel phones can expect to have separate volume and ringtone sliders available to them.
Folks over at 9to5Google previously spotted an ADB command that created separate “Ring volume” and “Notification volume” sliders in Android 13 QPR2 beta 1. While QPR2 hit stable in March this year, the feature remained missing in the release. The below-mentioned ADB command still works, though.
- adb shell device_config put systemui volume_separate_notification true
If you’re waiting for Google to release this feature officially, you might have to wait until June when Android 13 QPR3 is stable or until Android 14 comes out. Right now, the feature isn’t available in Android 13 QPR3 Beta 3 or 14 Beta 1.1.
